What is TabSorter?

TabSorter is a Chrome extension that turns a crowded browser window into an organized workspace. It sorts tabs by domain, creates optional browser tab groups, helps you review tabs before closing them, saves sessions, and lets you jump to tabs quickly with a launcher.

Who is it for?

It is built for people who work from the browser every day: researchers, operators, students, developers, founders, marketers, shoppers, and anyone who regularly ends up with dozens of open tabs across docs, tools, media, search results, and reference pages.

What happens after I install it?

TabSorter watches the current window, keeps pinned tabs in place, and organizes unpinned tabs into a more readable order. You can review the result in the extension popup, adjust sorting rules, save the current window as a session, or run Smart Cleanup when the window gets noisy.

Does TabSorter send my browsing data anywhere?

No. Tab titles, URLs, rules, profiles, cleanup history, and sessions stay in browser extension storage. The extension is local-first and does not need an external account to organize your tabs.

Can I control what gets sorted?

Yes. You can rank preferred domains, ignore specific domains or URL patterns, move matches to the front or end, pin matching pages, keep domains out of browser groups, and use separate workspace profiles for different contexts.

Can I undo a sort?

Yes. The extension popup can undo the last automatic or manual sort, so you can try organization without feeling locked into the result.

Does it create real browser tab groups?

Yes. TabSorter can create real Chrome tab groups automatically by domain or by custom grouping rules. If you turn browser tab groups off, groups created by the extension are removed.

What is Smart Cleanup?

Smart Cleanup is a review flow for tabs that are likely safe to process in batches, such as duplicates, stale pages, heavy domains, PDFs, shopping tabs, media, social feeds, search results, cloud docs, reading queues, and admin pages. You choose what to save, close, or keep before anything changes.

Can I save a set of tabs for later?

Yes. You can save the current window as a named session and restore it later in a new window. Pro also includes auto-save, which keeps recent window states available as restorable sessions.

What is included in the free version?

The free version includes core automatic domain sorting, one workspace profile, three preferred domains, and three saved sessions. It is enough to clean up lighter browser windows and see whether the workflow fits you.

When should I upgrade to Pro?

Pro is for daily browser work. It unlocks unlimited profiles, unlimited rules, Tab Inbox, auto-save, Smart Cleanup batch actions, and unlimited saved sessions.

Does it work in Edge too?

Yes. TabSorter is built for Chromium browsers and can be loaded in Chrome or Edge. The public listing is focused on Chrome, while local installation works in both Chrome and Edge.

Stop reorganizing the same tabs by hand.

Install TabSorter from the Chrome Web Store and clean up your browser in seconds.
